The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine is an important platform that gives local governments the opportunity to communicate directly with central authorities and participate in discussions.
This was emphasised by Tetiana Yegorova-Lutsenko, President of the Ukrainian Association of Rayon and Oblast Councils.
“In Ukraine, it has always been arranged in such a way that the head of the administration had contact with the President and the government. And the heads of regional councils and communities could not always reach the central authorities and provide the necessary information. Therefore, when a platform such as the Congress was created, local governments were able to participate in discussions. And not just among themselves, but directly with the President of Ukraine, the government, and central authorities. This platform makes it possible to hear the voice of the people of our country”, she said.
The head of the Association also believes that Ukraine and its communities are worthy of membership in the European Union. However, it is extremely important to ensure that issues and problems that arise at the local level are broadcast.
“It is important for us that people know not only Ukraine and our president. But also our regions, cities, and communities. And we show this. Because we have a lot of European cases where local governments cooperate with European countries and regions. And so for us, this is a step that brings us closer to the European Union”_ said Tetiana Yegorova-Lutsenko.
