On the instructions of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the head of the Office of the Head of State Andriy Yermak held a meeting of the Presidium of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine.  The participants of the meeting discussed the course of preparations for the International Summit of Communities and Regions.

As noted by Andriy Yermak, the upcoming Summit will be an important international event with the highest level of participation of representatives of various states and foreign communities.

The event will confirm that the Congress of local and regional authorities is a platform for effective interaction of city and community leaders.  Thanks to such a platform, representatives of local authorities can directly discuss issues of post-war reconstruction of the state, initiatives to normalize community life, and, most importantly, receive comprehensive support from organizers and partners.

“Today we already have many examples of cooperation, but everyone expects a more structured program from us.  And I hope that the Congress will become such a platform,” said the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

According to the deputy head of the Office of the Head of State Oleksiy Kuleba, as of today, 91 representatives from 18 countries have confirmed their personal participation in the summit.  Another 111 representatives from 36 countries are ready to participate online.

The delegations will also visit regions of Ukraine that suffered as a result of hostilities or were under Russian occupation.

“Ukraine unites the world around itself.  Ukraine contributes to the unity of the international community, which did not exist before.  One of these instruments is the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine.  This is a platform that becomes even more effective for working out solutions, agreements and mutual support at the community level,” Oleksiy Kuleba said.

Within the framework of the summit, a discussion of the reintegration of Ukrainian territories, overcoming humanitarian challenges, and restoring the vital activities of communities is planned with the participation of international governmental and non-governmental organizations.  The participants of the event will also raise the issue of demining and innovative development of territories.

According to the results of the summit, it is planned to sign the final declaration and a number of partnership agreements at the municipal level.

“This event is about partnership, help and shared values. This event is about the joint struggle for democratic values in the war against Russia. About our unity and strength,” concluded Oleksiy Kuleba.
